The Lake District -England

Lake District

I had a few days between a training course and a wedding so where better to go than the Lake District. The first two days were pretty wet but the third day…

Lake District
…fantastic sunshine. Not what you expect in November in the Lake District. I wore shorts for most of the day.
Lake District
Yes, I know I’m cute. Prince Charles is trying to encourage more people to eat mutton to support upland farmers. Mutton is a very tasty meat and it also means that cute sheep like this can run around for a few years before ending up in the oven.

Setting off to climb Great Rigg, this is the view from Heron Pike of Rydal water and Grasmere.

From the top of Great Rigg, looking back along the ridge that I climbed – with Windermere in the background.

This picture was taken at the top of the glacial valley (the glaciers left about 10,000 years ago though there was still some snow). The scene is a little like Sinai – just a little wetter, and cooler, and greener.

As you can see we were only half way and the sun was definitely on its way down. Too much time taking photos perhaps. Still, nothing could go wrong, could it?

It was getting pretty dark and there was still a way to go across boggy ground. I tried to carry my friend over a patch of bog and took a big step…

…and I became Bog Man. The smell was not very pleasant and it was pretty cold – and we still had a few kilometres to go but the laughter warmed us up.
