Kosice is actually not a bad place in Eastern Slovakia but here is a postcard showing what, apparently, the postcard printers want to show off about Kosice: a tower block, an administration building and a KMart. Slovakia does nature very well...

SAD
is the name of the Slovak bus company. SAD made me happy by taking me
to an ice cave in the Slovak Paradise where there is a huge block of ice
which never melts, even in summer. As is true of the Czech and Slovak Republics, public transport is inexpensive, frequent and not difficult to use.

I was lucky to be in the delightful old mining village of Spanie Dolina in March 2007. On the second day, the weather was wonderful... The area is a great one for hiking and there are plenty of hiking trails in the area.

A trout lake in the Slovak Paradise. The Slovak Paradise, or Slovensky Raj in Slovak, is a very special area. There are bears, wolves, lynx and far fewer tourists than in the High Tatras. |

In October 2005 I went on an amazing trip to Slovakia and hiked in the Rohace area of the Western Tatras. If you'd like to see some very beautiful pictures and read about the trip, click on Rohace.
