Breche de Roland (Part 2 of 2) |
||
The Glacier de Taillon - looking a lot smaller than it does on my nine-year-old map. When will an American President sign up to Kyoto? (Stop Press: Perhaps quite soon...)

||
The amazing view towards Gavarnie. Shame about the haze.

This is the Refuge des Sarradets with a view of the Breche behind. It seemed half of France and Spain had decided to go there that day.

||
This is the glacier in front of the Breche though there is a safe path across the glacier. I didn't have time to get up to the Breche on this trip but no doubt I'll be back.

This little chaffinch seemed quite happy to be up so high. To see an amazing picture that I took of a flock of chaffinches, click here

A final view of the Breche as the weather improved. Click on the image and you might be able to see people hiking across the glacier. Not a difficult hike but dangerous when the (frequent) fogs arrive within minutes. If you like the image, it is for sale at istockphoto.

Practical Information Sadly the bus to Gavarnie from Luz only runs in Summer. So you will have to cycle up to the Porte de Boucharo at other times of the year. |

More of the Pyrenees ? |
